Semana Santa, Destination: Amsterdam

For Spring Break, I decided to take a trip to various countries throughout Europe. All of my other friends already had plans to go somewhere, so I ended up traveling alone! I didn't really have a plan at all, expect all I knew was that I would visit my friend who is studying in Cologne, Germany and I would also visit my other friend who is from Linz, Austria. I first bought a plane ticket from Madrid to Eindhoven, Netherlands. This was the only thing I had planned up until about 2 days before I was leaving for my trip! I was a little nervous, considering I didn't really have any set plans for anything! This trip was so last minute and spontaneous, but I think that's what made it so fun! The day before I left for my trip, I was searching frantically for a flight back home in Madrid from, well, basically any country in Europe. I was trying to find a cheap ticket, but it was a little difficult considering it was Easter break and all the prices were hiked up! I finally found a great deal from Geneva, Switzerland back to Madrid on Tuesday evening, April 2. So at this point, I had a flight to Eindhoven, and a flight back to Madrid from Geneva. I didn't know how I would get to Geneva, but all I knew was that it was going to be an adventure!

It was the morning of March 21 and I could not sleep the night before because I was so anxious for my trip! I left for the airport at about 6:30 am to catch my 10am flight. At the airport, I ran into one of my friends and we were discussing our Spring Break plans. We were both so excited to go on adventures in Europe, and I was telling her how I was going to couch surf! We parted and I got through security, and was waiting anxiously at the gate to board the plane. My friend, Bethany, who is studying in Germany, suggested to me that I first visit Amsterdam before I go visit her in Cologne, so that is exactly what I did. When I got to Eindhoven, I took a bus to the main train station, then a train to Amsterdam. I spend a day in Amsterdam before I would go visit Bethany in Cologne. Below are some pictures from my Amsterdam visit....

I only had one full day in Amsterdam, but I think I made the most of it. I walked around town, visited the famous market, visited a beautiful Cathedral, and walked down the red light district. After I spent the day in Amsterdam, I was headed to Cologne, Germany to see my American friend who is studying there! I took a train from Amsterdam central station to Cologne Central Station and arrived in Cologne at about midnight on April 22.
